While working in retail for several years in Roanoke, David took an H&R Block tax course that he really enjoyed and ultimately launched his career path as a tax professional. Having joined AJC in 1989 after moving to Richmond, he is responsible for organizing and preparing tax data for clients, so the firm can submit accurate and timely tax returns for individuals and business entities. Many of the clients that he works with are small businesses and he likes knowing that AJC provides them with a strong comfort level regarding their taxes so they can focus on being successful. A history major at Virginia Tech, he is an avid reader – some favorite authors are John Grisham and Linwood Barclay. Always fascinated by the pyramids and the Sphynx, he and his wife checked off a bucket list item a few years ago with a “mind-blowing” trip to Egypt.

Sharon is a Director in AJC’s Tax Department, where she performs tax compliance and advisory services for individuals and business entities in a variety of industry sectors. In addition, she helps supervise the department’s staff and assists with training by sharing her expertise. She joined AJC in 2003 following a career with a national CPA firm and in private industry. At first, she assisted AJC only during tax season, and then transitioned to her current role after a few years. Many of her clients are middle-market, family-owned companies, so tax concerns are very personal to them. She finds it fulfilling to play a role in furthering a client’s business and being accessible to them as a business advisor. Sharon earned a degree in accounting from the University of Richmond. A proud grandmother, she enjoys taking her “grands” to the Richmond Metro Zoo or the pool, or just spending time with them. Also, she is active in her church and looks forward to creating memories during family vacations at Emerald Isle, N.C.

Logan joined the AJC team in 2022 and holds the position of Tax Manager, where he oversees clients’ tax planning, preparation, and consulting. A graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Accounting/Tax, he was hooked on the field when he took his first college class in accounting and found it really clicked with him. Of course, it was probably in the genes since his father is an accountant. The most motivational part of his job at AJC is feeling like he’s helping people out – whether it’s the staff, the clients, or the community. An avid Hokie fan, he follows Tech sports, especially football and basketball, and also enjoys playing golf, going to the beach, and hanging out with friends.

Tim serves as a Senior Assurance Manager at AJC. In that position, he performs and manages assurance engagements, including compilations, reviews, and audits for clients across various industries including electric cooperatives, construction contractors, and Common-Interest Realty Associations (CIRAs). He joined AJC in 2008 following an internship at the firm after graduating from Christopher Newport University with a degree in accounting. He also earned his Master of Accountancy from Virginia Commonwealth University. Two favorite aspects of his job are adding value to the client relationships through his understanding of complex accounting issues, as well as mentoring the newer members of the AJC staff and facilitating growth in their careers. He devotes most of his off-work hours to spending time with his family and coaching local youth athletics.

Diane joined AJC in 2015 and she serves as a Tax Manager, which involves managing client relationships for tax planning, tax preparation, gathering data for the tax returns and entering data into the tax software system, among other responsibilities. She appreciates the flexible environment that AJC offers team members to support a healthy work/life balance, including work-from-home opportunities during the off-season. Diane’s new passion is playing pickleball, and she also likes to stay active by walking, hiking, gardening, and taking aerobics. A long-time volunteer usher at the Altria and Carpenter Theatres, she has seen Broadway shows, concerts, celebrities and performances of the Richmond Symphony and the Richmond Ballet—all for free!

As a Tax Manager at AJC, David is very involved in every stage of preparing tax returns for individuals and business entities, including tracking accounts through the firm’s processing system, reviewing returns, and sending returns to the IRS. He joined AJC in 2012 and finds it very rewarding to see the scope of different industries that partner with AJC and to figure out how he can help business owners be successful. He had taken a class in accounting during high school and decided to pursue that career path at Longwood University, where he earned a degree in business administration/accounting and was on the wrestling team. He loves all things family and sports – taking hikes with his wife and two daughters, paddleboarding on the river, and following Hokie wrestling and football as well as Atlanta Braves baseball.

Larry serves as Director of Tax Resolution for AJC, having joined the firm in 2016. In that role, he reviews the notices that clients receive from the IRS or other tax entities and then works to get any tax issues resolved. His 36-year career with the IRS taught him to “speak bureaucrat” fluently, enabling him to quickly put clients at ease and help them navigate the IRS system to achieve a satisfactory resolution. A graduate of Roanoke College with a degree in business administration, Larry had originally planned a career in pharmacy but changed his mind after taking a ‘Principles of Accounting’ class that clicked with his interests in numbers and finance. In his leisure time, he enjoys being with his grandchildren and attending Virginia Tech football games as a season ticketholder.

Edy joined AJC in 2002 and she serves as a Senior Manager at the firm, where she manages the accounting associates who work on bookkeeping-related needs for tax and audit clients, along with helping clients with tax and business consulting. Prior to affiliating with AJC, she had her own bookkeeping business. She earned a degree in commercial art from Florida State University, but realized she was good with numbers while working at Disney World. She was introduced to the accounting field when a friend showed her how to do bookkeeping. Her career path included earning a degree in accounting from VCU after moving to Richmond. She finds it very rewarding to know that she has solved a problem for clients that eases their mind, makes their lives better and helps them run their businesses. Every Monday, Edy decorates her desk with fresh flowers from her garden and she also enjoys reading, bike riding, camping, and traveling nearby and to faraway places such as Singapore and China.

Susan is a Senior Manager in the Audit Department, having joined AJC in 2021. In that role, she oversees audits for business entities, nonprofits, and employee benefit plans. She also reviews financial statements and trains younger associates on the staff, among other responsibilities. Her favorite aspects of the job are solving problems for clients, adding value to the client relationships, and working with the new associates on the team. She graduated from VCU with a degree in economics, she also earned post-graduate certification in accounting from VCU. A seasoned practitioner, her career has included positions as an internal auditor and accounting manager in private accounting, and she has been in public accounting for about 20 years. She is an amateur photographer who has entered competitions and has publicly displayed her work, which primarily centers on flowers and candid “street photography” images. Also, she is very active in her church in Glen Allen, Va.

Tom joined AJC in 2009 and is a CPA at the firm, working on tax returns for clients as well as reviewing audits for Homeowners Associations (HOAs). He gains enormous satisfaction from helping clients with their tax questions or concerns and recommending solutions that will improve their processes. He holds bachelor’s and a master’s degrees in accounting from VCU. A native of Pittsburgh, he follows the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. An avid reader, he’s also getting back into the swing (pun intended!) of ballroom dancing, in which he used to compete. He especially enjoys smooth dancing styles, such as the waltz, foxtrot, and tango.

A Manager on the firm’s Assurance Team, Heather works on a variety of projects including reviews and compilations. She enjoys collaborating with a client’s management team on the goals that a client wants to achieve, so that AJC can deliver a top-tier product in a timely manner. Prior to joining AJC in 2015, she had been in public accounting at a large firm and also served as a controller for a hotel. A graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in accounting and a CPA, she considers accounting like a puzzle that has to be put together so that everything balances. An exercise aficionado, she likes to run and participate in boot camp sessions, and she’s learning to play golf. An ideal vacation is any beach in Florida and a fun personal fact is that she has a fraternal twin sister.

Tiffany is a Senior Manager on the Assurance Team at AJC. She enjoys providing business advisory services the most, working on acquisitions, dispositions, and due diligence projects. She finds it very rewarding helping clients navigate through transactions. Tiffany began her career in public accounting and after 5 years she transitioned to industry where she spent 17 years primarily with a large Richmond based food manufacturing company. In 2018 she began her own business providing fractional accounting and CFO services to small businesses and start-ups. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from VCU but had entered college at East Carolina University with a plan to major in journalism. After transferring to VCU and taking some accounting classes, a new career path was established. When she’s not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, outdoor activities, all things wellness and fitness, cooking and entertaining.

As a Senior Manager who joined AJC in 2022, Rob works in the firm’s Tax Department and is in charge of tax returns and tax planning for his clients that are mainly small businesses and individuals. He gets a lot of personal satisfaction from strategizing with clients and reducing their stress level about tax issues, and it’s especially rewarding when he can suggest solutions that help them save money. His father was an accountant and encouraged him to look into those courses at Le Moyne College in Syracuse. By his junior year, he was hooked and earned a degree in accounting so he could pursue a career in that field. A triathlete, he has competed in a dozen competitions since 2016 and spends much of his free time training for them. He also enjoys beach vacations with his family.

Ross is a Senior Tax Manager at AJC, where he works with closely held businesses to assist them with tax strategies and to recommend solutions that will minimize any tax liabilities. He engages with clients in a variety of industries, with many of them being in the real estate, investment, and construction sectors. A graduate of Longwood University, he earned a degree in accounting – following in the footsteps of his mother, a CPA. He joined AJC in 2019 after working at a small accounting firm after graduation. In his leisure time, Ross plays golf and spends time with his family. Some favorite destinations on getaway trips with his wife include Nashville, New York City and Charleston.

Derry serves as an Audit Manager on the Assurance Team at AJC, where he oversees audits, reviews, and various other attestation engagements. His clients primarily include electric cooperatives, construction contractors and homeowner associations. Along with training new associates on the team, he also has developed an expertise in handling agreed-upon engagements that are part of the bank examination process. Derry joined AJC in 2008 soon after graduating from Radford University with a double major in accounting and finance. Weekends and leisure time are spent with his wife and two children. The family looks for fun outdoor activities to do together, including sports and travel. He and his wife enjoy getaways to nearby breweries and wineries along with trips to Outer Banks and Florida.

A Senior Tax Manager at AJC, Michelle prepares individual, trust, estate, and gift tax returns. She also assists estate executors and administrators with the probate procedures and helps guide them through the estate settlement process. She enjoys helping fiduciaries of estates manage assets, protect beneficiaries and themselves, while easing the family’s burden during a difficult time. She has been working in the accounting field for over 30 years with half of her career focused on estate and trust matters. A graduate of Longwood University with concentrations in accounting and management, she chose to focus on accounting because she enjoyed problem solving and analytical challenges. Born and raised in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, Michelle enjoys running, spending time at the beach, boating, and fishing on the James River with her family.

A Manager in the Tax Department, Kris prepares tax returns and builds strong relationships with his clients. He has worked with a diverse array of clients since joining the firm in 2016 and finds it rewarding to feel like he’s part of their team. A graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in accounting and information technology, he found his career path after he aced his first accounting class. Along with playing golf, he spends leisure time with his family and hanging out with close friends. A favorite destination during the off-season is Carova Beach, the northernmost community on the Outer Banks that is only accessible via a 4-wheel drive vehicle.

Stewart joined the firm in 2013 and serves as an Audit Manager on the Assurance Team where she oversees audit, review, and compilation engagements. She primarily works with electric cooperatives, employee benefit plans and common interest realty associations. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and an MBA from Lindenwood University. Outside of work, Stewart loves an early morning workout, trips to the beach and spending time with her husband and two young daughters.

Meredith serves as a Manager with AJC’s Audit group, where she supervises audit engagements with a primary focus on 401k plans, compilations, and reviews. A special aspect of her job is working with clients and helping them address an audit issue that needed AJC’s assistance and expertise to get resolved. Having joined AJC in 2018, she also enjoys watching new associates gain experience and progress in their careers at the firm. During her sophomore year at Virginia Tech, she took some accounting classes, and everything clicked that this should be her career path, so she earned a degree in accounting and information systems. Annual family trips to Hilton Head with her husband and two daughters are always on the agenda along with occasional visits to Disney World. Closer to home, she likes to work out at the gym for some mind-clearing “me” time.

As a Director at AJC, he reviews tax returns on behalf of the firm before the returns are sent to the client and filed with the IRS. Also, he manages the staff’s workload to handle the projects that the clients produce. With support from the firm’s leadership, he researched the procedures for being an executor/administrator of an estate, which has led to a new specialty area at AJC. He stays in touch with his clients all year long, not just during tax season, so he and the AJC team can be proactive about any potential issues that might be looming. Carl, who has over 40 years of experience, ran his own CPA business for 26 years before it was acquired by AJC in 2015. A native of New York City, he started college at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, then transferred to VCU, where he took an accounting course by chance and did so well that he decided to make it his profession, earning a degree in accounting. A Yankees fan, he is learning carpentry skills in his spare time. He has undertaken several DIY projects such as erecting a chicken coop and building a walkway with pavers in front of his home with some sweat-equity provided by family members including his son, Miles, who also works at AJC.

As a Tax Manager who joined AJC in 2019, Miles prepares tax returns for business and corporate entities and high net-worth individuals. He finds it rewarding to see clients grow and blossom, and to know that he had a role in their success. Growing up, he often visited his father’s CPA office, where he enjoyed helping his dad, Carl Woo, who now works at AJC. With accounting in his DNA, he earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in that field from VCU. When he’s not working, Miles plays soccer, basketball, tennis, kickball, and golf.

As a Director at AJC, Walt balances a variety of responsibilities in both the tax and audit departments. He works with corporations, nonprofits and individuals on preparing and filing their tax returns. On the audit side, he is very involved with bank agreed-upon procedures – a specialty area that he helped to establish and grow at AJC – which requires writing and executing procedures related to asset-based lending, borrowing allocations, accounts receivable, payroll, and other activities for AJC’s banking clients. This aspect of his work has greatly expanded over the years since he joined AJC in 2013 after a career in both public and private accounting, and he still finds it very rewarding to bring new business into the firm. A native of Cleveland and a marketing major at Kent State University, he was introduced to accounting during a summer internship at Price Waterhouse. Active in a number of nonprofit organizations, he has served on the board of Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers since 1994 and had served as treasurer for over 15 years. Other leisure time enjoyments include playing golf and traveling in the U.S. and overseas.

As a Supervisor in AJC’s Audit Department, Arthur plans and executes client jobs, supervises staff, reviews their work, communicates with clients and prepares financial statements. While at Christopher Newport University, he majored in accounting and finance while also playing baseball. On weekends and off-work hours, you’ll find Arthur playing golf, pickleball, or doing anything sports related. He is also part of recreational co-ed softball and kickball teams.

Chris is a Senior Assurance Manager at AJC with more than 12 years of experience assisting clients with audit, review, and compilation engagements. His vast experience spans a wide spectrum of industries including electric utilities, workers compensation insurers, property and casualty insurers and common interest realty associations among others. In addition to serving as the lead on assurance engagements, Chris also specializes in providing consulting services to various insurance companies throughout the year. Such services include monthly/quarterly/annual reporting requirements, calculation and allocation of member dividends, loss portfolio transfers and mergers/acquisitions to name a few.

Chris graduated from Longwood University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with dual concentrations in Accounting and Finance. After completing a two-year internship, Chris joined AJC full time in 2010. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, especially coaching his son’s football and basketball teams. His family loves spending time on the water and enjoy the Outer Banks so much that they named the family Sheepadoodle “Bodie” in honor of the Bodie Island Lighthouse.
