Steve brings over 30 years of experience in public accounting, with specialized expertise in the electric cooperative industry. After joining AJC in 1997, he founded the firm’s utility division, focusing on regulatory accounting, auditing, and client relations. As a leader at AJC, Steve oversees quality control and is frequently invited to speak at industry conferences, sharing his knowledge and insights.
Steve holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from East Carolina University and is an active member of the ECU Pirate Club, showing his pride for his alma mater. Outside of work, he enjoys water sports at Lake Gaston with his family and stays active through golf and other recreational activities.
John’s path to becoming an Assurance Partner at AJC is a distinctive one. After earning a degree in business from the University of Mary Washington, he spent eight years in sales before making the transition to accounting. He joined AJC in 2003, where he combined his sales experience with his growing accounting expertise to serve a diverse range of assurance clients, from small family businesses to large corporations. Over time, John advanced to the role of Assurance Partner, where he leads the firm’s efforts to provide top-tier services to clients, while appreciating AJC’s small leadership team for its ability to respond quickly and effectively to client needs.
Outside of work, John enjoys attending music festivals, playing golf and tennis, and spending time with his family, often at college and professional sports events.
Rick, a Partner at AJC, leads the firm’s Assurance Department, specializing in insurance enterprises, employee benefit plans, and common interest realty associations. He joined AJC in 1996, bringing a wealth of experience in tax returns, audits, and bookkeeping. This diverse background has enabled him to mentor new associates and cultivate strong client relationships.
Originally, Rick planned to study geology at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), but he ultimately chose to major in accounting, following in his father’s footsteps as a CPA. Outside of work, Rick enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, backpacking, and taking family vacations to Virginia Beach. He has also participated in SEAL Team courses with his daughter and looks forward to future travel and more family adventures.
Steve is a Partner at AJC, where he oversees audit engagements and serves as a key point of contact, ensuring smooth communication and interactions between clients and the firm. With nearly 30 years of experience as a CPA, Steve is committed to helping clients grow their businesses by providing valuable insights in auditing, accounting, and operations.
A graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in accounting, Steve was also a drummer in a college band, showcasing his passion for music alongside his academic pursuits. Before joining AJC in 2016, Steve gained experience at both a local and a national CPA firm, further honing his expertise.
Outside of work, Steve enjoys participating in team-building activities such as golf tournaments and the AJC Olympics. He is also passionate about health and fitness, with interests in running, weightlifting, and golf. Above all, Steve treasures spending time with his wife, son, and daughter, valuing the importance of family life.
As President and Managing Partner of AJC, Frank has guided the firm for over three decades, driving consistent growth and expansion. Under his leadership, AJC has grown from a small team to nearly 100 associates. Frank is especially proud of the firm’s long-standing relationships with clients and the exceptional service provided across tax, audit, and assurance.
He earned his accounting degree and MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Frank’s career began with the firm’s founder, Stan Adams, who instilled a commitment to exceptional service and a family-oriented culture that remains central to AJC’s values today.
Outside of work, Frank is passionate about giving back to nonprofits, including the American Cancer Society (where he chaired the Richmond Cattle Baron’s Ball), the Special Olympics, and the Bone Frog Open, which honors fallen Navy SEALs. When he has free time, Frank enjoys golfing and participating in water sports with his family at Lake Gaston.
Tim is a Senior Assurance Manager at AJC, where he leads and manages a range of assurance engagements, including compilations, reviews, and audits, for clients across various industries such as electric cooperatives, construction contractors, and Common-Interest Realty Associations (CIRAs). Tim joined AJC in 2008, following an internship with the firm after earning his degree in accounting from Christopher Newport University. He furthered his education with a Master of Accountancy from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Tim particularly enjoys two key aspects of his role: providing clients with valuable insights into complex accounting issues and mentoring newer staff members to support their professional development. His leadership and guidance are integral to the growth of both client relationships and the AJC team. Outside of work, Tim dedicates much of his time to his family and coaching youth athletics in the local community, where he has the opportunity to positively impact the lives of young athletes.
Chris is a Senior Assurance Manager at AJC, bringing over 12 years of experience in audit, review, and compilation engagements. His expertise spans a broad range of industries, including electric utilities, workers’ compensation insurers, property and casualty insurers, and common interest realty associations, among others. In addition to leading assurance engagements, Chris specializes in providing consulting services to various insurance companies throughout the year. These services include handling monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements, calculating and allocating member dividends, managing loss portfolio transfers, and supporting mergers and acquisitions.
Chris earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with dual concentrations in Accounting and Finance from Longwood University. After completing a two-year internship, he joined AJC full-time in 2010.
Outside of work, Chris enjoys spending time with his family, especially coaching his son’s football and basketball teams. The family also loves spending time on the water, particularly in the Outer Banks, where they named their Sheepadoodle “Bodie” in honor of the Bodie Island Lighthouse.
JD, as he’s known to his colleagues, leads AJC’s Tax Department and acts as a vital bridge between the tax and assurance teams. He manages a diverse client portfolio, including privately held companies and high-net-worth individuals, and is skilled in handling IRS and state audit defense matters. JD holds both an accounting degree from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y., and a law degree from the University of Richmond.
He vividly recalls his first meeting with Frank Jenkins, the firm’s President and Managing Partner, where he was immediately drawn to AJC’s unique culture and Frank’s inspiring vision, which ultimately led him to join the firm in 2016. Beyond his professional responsibilities, JD is passionate about teaching and mentoring. He hosts life lessons over lunch and teaches the Financial Peace University curriculum, developed by Dave Ramsey, at various locations.
Outside of work, JD enjoys cooking, grilling, and baking (ask him for his famous Key Lime Pie recipe!). He also loves golfing and cherishes time spent with his family.
Sharon is a Director in AJC’s Tax Department, where she provides tax compliance and advisory services to individuals and businesses across various industries. In addition to her client work, Sharon helps supervise the department’s staff and plays an integral role in training, sharing her extensive expertise. She joined AJC in 2003 after gaining valuable experience with a national CPA firm and in private industry. Initially joining the firm on a seasonal basis during tax time, Sharon transitioned into her current full-time role after a few years.
Many of Sharon’s clients are middle-market, family-owned businesses, where tax issues are often deeply personal. She finds great satisfaction in supporting her clients’ success, acting not just as a tax professional, but as a trusted business advisor who is always accessible. Sharon holds a degree in accounting from the University of Richmond.
Outside of work, Sharon is a proud grandmother who enjoys spending time with her “grands” at the Richmond Metro Zoo, at the pool, or simply enjoying each other’s company. She is also actively involved in her church and treasures the memories created during family vacations at Emerald Isle, North Carolina.
